How does the 30% federal credit work with a prepaid system?
The federal residential solar tax credit (Section 25D) was eliminated on January 1, 2026 by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. If you buy a system outright in 2026, you get zero federal credit. However, with a prepaid lease, the financing company owns the system and claims the 30% commercial credit under Section 48E. They pass those savings straight through as a lower one-time price. You don't need to owe a dime in federal taxes — it's completely handled by the financing company. This is now the only way for homeowners to benefit from any federal solar incentive.
Will solar panels work with San Diego's marine layer?

Most homeowners pair a 10–13 kWh battery to keep lights, refrigerator, internet, and medical devices running for 8–12 hours.
What if I sell my house?
Solar homes sell for 6.9% more on average (Zillow, 2025). Berkeley Lab research shows buyers pay roughly $5,911 per kW installed. On a typical San Diego home, a 7.2 kW system adds approximately $43,000 in value. With a lease/PPA, you can either transfer the agreement to the buyer or buy out the remaining term before closing.
Will my SDG&E bill actually go to zero?
Almost. This is a prepaid lease: you make one payment up front — typically around $30,000 for solar plus battery on an average San Diego home — and there is no lease payment ever after that. You will still get a small SDG&E bill, usually around $35 a month, because SDG&E's Base Services Charge and its non-bypassable charges cannot be offset by solar credits. Nobody in San Diego can get you to a $0 bill, and anyone who promises that is not being straight with you. No loan, no lease bill, no balloon payment. The financing company owns the system and handles all maintenance and monitoring for 25 years at no additional cost. What if my panels underperform?
Your system comes with a 90% production guarantee. If your panels produce less than 90% of the estimated annual generation, you receive a credit. The financing company also monitors your system 24/7 and handles all repairs at no cost to you — for the full 25-year term. At the end of the agreement, you can buy the system at fair market value, extend the agreement, or have it removed.
